Mrs. Verheyen's Passing
Hello everyone, I'm Stevy Verheyen of FnaticMSI, a Call of Duty 4 competitive team. I wish I wasn't in the current situation I'm in now, but unfortunately that's how the world turns. My mother has passed away within the last day. She was hospitalized the 24th of May, 2 days after her birthday, after collapsing right in front of my eyes. My brother and I rushed her off to the hospital and waited nervously for hours. The diagnosis the doctors told us was a brain anuerysm. She had bleeding inside her brain and was in ICU (intensive care unit) for 16 tedious days. She fought from the day until it was just too much. She struggled a bit after the initial 6 hour surgery and almost passed due to a lung infection, but she kept fighting as the days went by. Everything was pointing to a successful recovery until one night when the doctors contacted me at 1:30am on June 9th. They told me my mother had suffered a second bleeding of the brain and said that there was a very strong possibility she was braindead. As the hours passed by slowly, we recieved the news that nobody wants to hear -- she was indeed braindead and her state could not be mended or reversed. She only had a few hours to live, despite being hooked up to machines. My father decided to remove my mother from her devastating suffering and shut down the machines. The pain simply was not something I wished my mother to go through. She fought 16 long days with every ounce of will and power she had, and truly was an inspiration to me and my friends that I look at the same way as family.
Since we're very challenged financially due to all of the medical bills and funeral costs, I've come to politely ask for assistance with this matter, as I would do the same for anyone put in this situation if it was within my power to do so. The company my mother worked for during the course of many years went bankrupt last year and she lost her hospital insurance. Due to this, the hit that we took was much more severe than if she retained that insurance. Until this day, I still do not comprehend how my mother accomplished so many tasks -- albeit working or morale support -- to help my family through the toughest of times.
Sitting next to her hospital bed for 16 days, holding her hand alongside my brother and father and realizing that she was not able to recover shredded me inside and demolished my morale to the point where I was truly devastated and depressed. We want to give her the perfect funeral as a last goodbye and positive deed towards the woman that I looked up to the most. She will forever be my greatest influence until the day I join her up above, and assistance with said medical bills and funeral fees will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading this and taking the time to take this all in.
This is a video of me at Crossfire Intel Challenge 7 LAN. I will never forget this day for as long as I live. The day you came with me and watched me play with dad, to understand how much this tournament meant for me. I love you mom, and miss you greatly. You are not here physically, but forever shall remain in spirit and throughout my life mentally. Rest in peace. I love you, mom. <3
